I was just watching the local news, channel 5 here in Missouri (http://www.KSDK.com)airing a story about shoppers opting for repairs instead of replacing (buying) them with new items. I thought the days of repairing shoes and purses was long gone, because when I lived in Los Angeles, finding a shoe repair shop was like looking for a needle in a hay stack.

Shoppers are repairing shoes, handbags and old appliances instead of buying new ones. The repair shop owners were saying they have so much business now that they can't keep up. Customers are bringing in purses with broken handles, shoes that need new heels and toasters, blenders and other household appliances which would otherwise be thrown away. Who knew that we are not a throw-away society anymore.

Bank Of America Offering Illegal Immigrants Credit Cards

My sister just called me enraged because she just learned, while listening to CNN, about a program offered by Bank of America (BOA)to illegal immigrants.

It seems that Bank of America will be offering a credit card with a limit of $500 to Spanish speaking persons who may not have social security numbers to encourage them to put down roots in America. The cards will carry a higher rate of interest and are designed to be the first step in helping immigrants establish a credit history, said bank spokeswoman, Alexandra C. Trower, today.

Immigrants are allowed to establish accounts by using individual taxpayer identification numbers, or ITINs, issued by the Internal Revenue Service. They also may accept an identification card issued by Mexican consulates, known as the matricula consular.

The test market for this program will be Los Angeles County, then take the program nationwide if it does well. The story was first reported by The Wall Street Journal.

This upset my sister because she has been a customer of BOA for seventeen years and have unsecured credit cards from several banks except BOA because they have refused her twice. Their explanation is past credit problems. With the exception of a few people, everyone I know have had or have credit problems. It seems they prefer to have illegal immigrants because of the vast un-banked economic strength.

Critics complain that it is easy for illegal immigrants to obtain ITINs, which they then use to gain access to financial services and tax benefits to which they are not entitled.

Russ Knocke, a spokesman for the Department of Homeland Security, said "It seems to be lending itself to possibilities of perpetrating identity theft or creating more risk for money laundering."

Men are often asking themselves what do women really want of course this can be debatable depending upon what kind of relationship you're looking for and personal experience. Also, preference do change over time.

First let me state a man doesn't have to be the tallest, most handsome, well built or most successful. I am not saying that these traits don't ever matter, of course they do. What woman wouldn't want a tall handsome rich guy? Truth of the matter is there are far more men with potential than Rockerfellow pockets.

My dream man was all of the above plus generous, understanding, good sense of humor, king in the sack and adventurous. Now I am almost willing to settle for kind, breathing and a good pension plan. Notice I said almost.

Guys you may be a great person and have sensational traits, but let's be real - personal appearance is important. Women don't want to be seen with a man with bad skin and dirty hair. If your complexion is full of zits, how can she get a good look at you?

Tip #1. Get yourself a good skincare product to keep your face clear of blemishes. Skincare for men is acceptable as evidenced by the increasing number companies catering to men such as the celebrities favorite Zirh. Proactiv is another excellent skincare program. (I never believed in the commercial until I went on vacation and forgot to pack my skincare. My host offered me Proactiv, it made my skin flawless in two weeks, although I saw a difference in 3 days).

Tip #2. Women love to be told how unforgettable they are. Example: "I think about you all the time, I can't work because you're always on my mind". A phone call to say I am think about you and had to call just to hear your voice will lift her higher than a kite, then you are on her mind.

Tip #3. Take time to talk to her, find out what she likes, favorite flower, perfume, color, etc. Then surprise her even if it isn't her birthday. Don't visit empty handed, if you can't buy a dozen roses, get one with a ribbon tied around it or buy a lovely card to express what you are feeling. My friend got excited every time her boy friend drew her a card or made breakfast for her in bed. Bottom line make her feel important.

Tip #4. Women love a delicious smelling man. A good smelling fragrance on a man can make a woman follow him to hell and back. Maybe you have heard women say "he smelled so good, I wanted to take him home with me".

This is a true story - one day I was walking to work and saw a man coming toward me, he was short, fat, well dressed, wearing a Derby hat on his head swinging an umbrella with confidence. His hair was red, red mustache and turned up beard, not one trait that interested me. When I passed him, I turn around in a circle and began following him. He smelled so good, it was as if his fragrance grab me and said follow me girl!

Tip #5. Check your teeth and breath. Yellow teeth, bad teeth, bad breath - Conversation won't last long with any of the aforementioned. If you need a dentist, no matter how afraid you are, please see one, women are turned off by all three.

Tip #6. Groom your fingernails, dirt under your fingernails is a no no. After all you never know where your fingers will end up.

Tip #7. Last but not least, a woman wants a man who can rock her world in the bedroom. Can't give any details here, but I came across a site that give seminars in enhancing relationships.

To sum it all up, men women want a man who smell delicious, care about his appearance and someone who will make her feel as if she's the only woman in the world for you.

An hour or two after I posted on the Nigerian Scam I received this e-mail. It is posted only as example of the type of letter I might receive in your in-box. In their haste to capitalize of our kindness, thy forgot to include a response address. The e-mail is un-edited.

Dear Beloved,

I am Mrs Lindiwe Zuma.Wife Of Mr. Jacob Zuma, the Sacked Deputy President of South Africa. It is out of desperation that I am sending you this mail. My Husband and I need your assistance in fronting for us as owner of funds that are his which might come under investigation soon if the fund's ownership is not changed soonest. As my Husband's finances are increasingly becoming the source of investigation by our detractors. The source of these fund's which my Husband earnings would not validate, will further sink him into the cesspool dug by our enemies.

It is because of the dire strait we find ourselves that we resolved to reach you and ask for your assistance in this matter. We are averse to letting those we know here into this deal because we are no longer sure of who our friends are. You will be handsomely rewarded if you choose to help as partners in this project.

4Shoppers Alert - The "Nigerian" Scam

Hope every one had a good weekend. I've been a little slow with posting deals here. Still working on the web site to make it more appealing and interesting for more than shopping. Instead, I decided to post something that is a concern to all of us. I get emails everyday from people purporting to be from Nigeria, China, Japan and a number of other countries; however I believe this is a group of scammers.

Some of the e-mails claim to be from women whose husbands have died, representatives of an estate of a dignitary who died and left no relatives, or a business person trying to get cargo into the US. I got one two weeks ago stating I had won 15 million dollars and my personal information needed to be verified in order to claim my prize money. Even though knew better, who liked me well enough to enter me into a multi-million dollar lottery! I was very tempted until I noticed the e-mail came from a Yahoo mailbox. For 15 million dollars, couldn't they afford a paid mail subscription service? With identity theft on the rise - whose knows what they really want to use your information for.

The game has changed a little since the below alert was issued. Now the e-mails are claiming all they need is your contact information, eg., Name, Address, Telephone Number and passport info for identification purposes. The FTC had the following to say:

Nigerian advance-fee fraud has been around for decades, but now seems to have reached epidemic proportions: Some consumers have told the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) they are receiving dozens of offers a day from supposed Nigerians politely promising big profits in exchange for help moving large sums of money out of their country. And apparently, many compassionate consumers are continuing to fall for the convincing sob stories, the unfailingly polite language, and the unequivocal promises of money. These advance-fee solicitations are scams. And according to the FTC, the scam artists are playing each and every consumer for a fool. Here's the play book:

Claiming to be Nigerian officials, businesspeople or the surviving spouses of former government honchos, con artists offer to transfer millions of dollars into your bank account in exchange for a small fee. If you respond to the initial offer, you may receive "official looking" documents. Typically, you're then asked to provide blank letterhead and your bank account numbers, as well as some money to cover transaction and transfer costs and attorney's fees.

You may even be encouraged to travel to Nigeria or a border country to complete the transaction. Sometimes, the fraudsters will produce trunks of dyed or stamped money to verify their claims. Inevitably, though, emergencies come up, requiring more of your money and delaying the "transfer" of funds to your account; in the end, there aren't any profits for you to share, and the scam artist has vanished with your money.

If You Receive an Offer

If you're tempted to respond to an offer, the FTC suggests you stop and ask yourself two important questions: Why would a perfect stranger pick you — also a perfect stranger — to share a fortune with, and why would you share your personal or business information, including your bank account numbers or your company letterhead, with someone you don't know? And the U.S. Department of State cautions against traveling to the destination mentioned in the letters. According to State Department reports, people who have responded to these "advance-fee" solicitations have been beaten, subjected to threats and extortion, and in some cases, murdered.

If you receive an offer via email from someone claiming to need your help getting money out of Nigeria — or any other country, for that matter — forward it to the FTC at spam@uce.gov.

If you have lost money to one of these schemes, call your local Secret Service field office. Local field offices are listed in the Blue Pages of your telephone directory.

This article in Farmers Weekly interested me because I have previously shopped on the Internet for my groceries until the service was discontinued.

I was always pleased with my deliveries and didn't like it one bit when I had to return to driving myself to the store to get my food. It's hard to shop after 12 hour nights 48-60 hours a week. Nurses work hard for their money.

According to the international grocery and food research body, chief executive of IGD Joanne Denney-Finch, advances in technology will have profound implications to the way we shop and the food we choose to buy.

Ms. Finch spoke at the annual IGD convention Tuesday, October 10, 2006. She
stated "the ease with which today's younger generation grasped advances in technology meant the nation's shopping habits would be increasingly dependant on the internet".

She pointed to research recently carried out by IGD which surveyed a group of people aged 13 to 40 and asked them how they expected to be buying their groceries in 10 years' time.

Just 31% said they would use a supermarket for everything, 13% anticipate using online shopping for everything, while 28% said they will use a mixture of both.

"Perhaps you're thinking that online shopping is pretty irrelevant because it's only 1% of the grocery market. But as the baby boomers reach retirement more and more people will rely on deliveries to the home."

The buying and selling of domains is a mammoth business, far more than I anticipated. I never really gave it any thought until I decided investigate selling a couple of domains I am not using. I did a google search on domains for sell and the result was astounding. I had no idea the domain selling and buying business was that demanding. This is a short review of just three site that caught my eye.

I came across an SEDO.COM's ad that offered "Recycle Traffic" to domains that had expired and was receiving hits. Sedo will not only sell domain names but they also sell web sites with content.

SEDO.com Recycled Traffic - Hugh selection of domain names, both US and International. Commission Flat 10%, domain parking Free, domain appraisal service, and financing available. Domain prices range from $60 up.

The Domain Barn while I wasn't crazy about the bobbing cow head on it's main page, I found the inventory interesting. How do people come up with some of those names? Domain Barn described as a domain brokerage and Internet business incubator. To sell your domain is ten dollars per month for advertising, no appraisal service, and no commission rate listed. Domain for sell range from $450-$500,000.

URL Merchant owns, list and resell domain names with different business themes. Their service include an online auction, financing available, commission 6.75% plus $239 brokerage fee. Domains range up to $2,000,000 although the web site does state most domains sells have been between $5,000 to $15,000. Minimum bid accepted on any domain is $750.

All of the above services will do the negotiations for you and you have the option to accept or not.

If you are contemplating either buying or sell a domain be sure to get full details before entering any agreements.

How Do I Use My Coupon Codes

It may be hard to believe, but there are a lot of newbies out there just getting acquainted with the computer and online shopping. I get this question in my mailbox at least once a week. "How do I use the coupon code"? Here it is short and simple.

Coupon codes are usually entered during the checkout step of your purchase. Usually on the page where you enter your credit card information, there will be a box which ask you to enter coupon code - enter your coupon code there.

If your coupon code is attached to a banner or link with the code written in, then when you click the banner or link to purchase, the code is automatically entered into the checkout cart.

Check to make sure the code has been enter and discount credited before finalizing or clicking the confirm order button. Above all make sure the merchant has a secure site when entering credit card and personal information. Look for the lock at the bottom of the browser.

Are Rebates Tricks or Treats

What exactly is a rebate you might ask? Rebate offers can be irresistible, and promise to either slash the price of item at the time of purchase or give a partial to full reimbursements after you make the purchase. Is it a trick or treat? Some would say it's a trick and others a real treat. You be the judge. Here are the facts.

The Way Rebates Work:

Shoppers are enticed to make immediate purchases with an instant cash rebate that can be redeemed immediately at the time of checkout or a mail-in rebate. The more common rebates are the one's that must be mailed in to receive your cash-back. They require you to pay the full cost of an item at the time
purchase, then to send documentation to the manufacturer or retailer to receive a rebate by mail.

Take care to keep the original sales receipt, UPC code, and the rebate slip, you will need them in order to receive your rebate. Additionally the rebate slip must be completely filled out with the customer's name, address and telephone number. This paperwork must be sent to the manufacturer or retailer within 30 days of the purchase. Be sure to make copies of everything you send as this will be your only record should something go wrong. Here comes the good part - it may take up to 12 weeks to receive your cash.

Be on the watch for rebates that never come or may come later than promised. Don't be shy about calling to check on your rebate if it doesn't come within the time promise. By law, companies are required to send rebates within the time frame promised, or if no time is specified, within a "reasonable" time.
"Reasonable" is usually or in most cases interpreted as within 30 days.

On a personal note, I have had some good success with rebates and some not so good experiences, however, my sister swears by them - a real treat for her. If you are willing to wait, rebates can be fantastic treats when they arrive.

You may have noticed no post today. The truth is I was preparing two posts for today, but was so wrapped up in my project that I lost track of time. First, 4Savvy ShoppersOnline Shopping Mall is back online. A little birdie told me that they will soon have their own blog linked to their web site. There are new merchants being included everyday, a coupon and rebate section added to the main menu and comparison shopping (not complete yet, but within a day or so.

Shoppers won't have to hunt for bargains or coupons, in additions to it's own category, coupons and deals are posted through the site alone with free shipping deals. New merchant ants are being added daily. Some deals are only good for a day or two, but new bargains will take the place of the expired one.

Compulsive buying is not just a problem that some women have - it seems that men are just as likely to suffer from it, say researchers from Stanford University, USA. About 5% of adults in the USA say they cannot refrain from shopping for stuff they probably don't want or need.

The traditional view of women suffering from compulsive buying is probably the result of most studies being done mainly on women. Women are also more likely to admit to compulsive shopping than men.

You can read about this new study in the American Journal of Psychiatry.

Surprisingly, more people from lower incomes suffer from compulsive shopping than people from higher incomes.

Compulsive shoppers enjoy the buzz of shopping and browsing for the things - they experience a ‘high' from it. This is followed by distress and remorse when the person realizes that money was spent on things that would never be used.

In this study, 2,500 adults were surveyed by telephone. The researchers determined each person's level of compulsive buying by using a screening device called ‘The Compulsive Buying Scale'.

The researchers found that:

-- 5.8% of people are Compulsive buyers

-- 6% of women are Compulsive buyers

-- 5.5% of men are Compulsive buyers

-- A higher percentage of younger people are Compulsive buyers than older people

-- A higher percentage of people who earn less than

-- $50,000 per year are compulsive buyers

-- Male compulsive buyers tend to buy CDs, books, tools, gadgets, computer stuff and cameras.

-- Female compulsive buyers tend to buy clothes, make-up, articles for the home and jewelry.

-- Male compulsive shoppers are more likely to become addicted to auctions than female compulsive shoppers

-- Compulsive buying does not make the sufferer feel any happier

-- Many sufferers experience serious debt, remorse and shame
-- It is not uncommon for the sufferer to hide his/her addiction from family and friends

-- Compulsive buying is as prevalent as many other mental disorders

I hope everyone had a great weekend as I did. Normally I do not post grocery deals but I found this site Coupon Dispatch, where you can printer out grocery coupons free. You will need to enter your zipcode, sign up with your complete name, address and phone number and lastly agree to accept email from other offers that are being sponsored (The part that made me nervous).

We all know that once you agree to accept offers from their sponsors, your email box is flooded with mail from everyone but God. If you decide to try them, I would use a throw away mailbox (free email such as hotmail). You can then accept or reject any offer you are interested in.

I think going directly to Cool Savings may be the way to go, as all you need to do is register on their site and start printing coupons. Be careful with printing your coupons because if you make a mistake, you loose it, you can only print out one coupon on a computer in an effort to cut down on fraud and multiple printings of the same coupon.

If they save you money go for it. My daughter just loves Cool Savings.

Say What? No Shopping For a Year

This morning while browsing the news, I came across a story reported by Dave Sleater at WSAW about a woman who gave up shopping for a year. She gave up shopping for everything - including buying clothes and watching TV to eating out as part of the experiment to see what impact buying has on society.

Levine, the woman who gave up shopping, stated that the hardest thing for her was simply learning to separate needs from wants. And even after the experiment was over, she still had certain cravings for materials and services.

She said "I really missed movies," so the day after the experiment was over, Levine rented six movies. "I missed them not just for the entertainment but also for the ability to communicate with other people and know whats going on in the world."

I know a few people who have not shopped in more than a year, but it wasn't an experiment. If you catch my drift.

My sister would be crazier than a hoot howl if she couldn't shop. I have on many occasions pulled her screaming and kicking out of department stores. Imagine that from a former shopaholic!

If Crap Was a Prize Then I Won The Jackpot

Normally I never complain publically, but since this is my blog "I can complain if I want to." If crap was a prize, then I really hit the Jackpot today. First, I called my web host company to tell them I would not need their service effective October 1st, (that's when my next fees were due to be paid) - they pulled the plug on my site on the spot.

It took them three days or more to get my up and going and just a minute to shut it down. I am waiting to see if I get any money back for the time I have left. Also, I learn that they have lowered the cost of their hosting, but I couldn't get the new price. Go figure.

Wish they had fixed the problems with their system as fast as they closed my site. Luckily, I had already downloaded my files and already building my new site on a 10 day free trial. So, it will be up and running shortly. It's costing a little more but the professional look is worth it.

That's not all, I mistakenly posted that would be pointing my domain to my other blog, which was not the case so I went back to make the correction and Yes you guessed it. That blog was shut down as well for a violation (I think because of the mistaken post) I just posted a Joke this morning.

The real kicker is that the blog where I was going to temporary redirect my domain to, as that is a service they offer, is so screwed up - the graphics are missing on everyone's blog. Atleast all of the ones I visited. Looks like a problem. Don't know how long they will be there.

Is this a day from H-LL or what? Guess what I'll be doing double time with?

I want to thank all of you who emailed me about the site and those of you who were patient with me during all of the hectic problems I had when the site was up. Your support kept me afloat. I want you to know - You are appreciated.

Don't dispute everything at once, the reporting agency looks at this as frivioulous. Select the most important items first. It will take about 30 days for them to get back to you. Once those items come off send another dispute letter to take off additional discrepencies. Remember this did not happen over night an it will take a little time to make it right. Persistences pays off.
